Our City Councilmember: Paul Krekorian
Paul Krekorian was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2009 after three
successful years in the California State Assembly. His time in Sacramento led to major
reforms in the business, public safety and entertainment sectors, informing what is now
an ambitious agenda on the City Council.
After graduating from UC Berkeley's School of Law, Paul focused on business litigation
and intellectual property before gaining on a seat on the Burbank Board of Education,
leading the board through one of its most economically difficult periods.
Paul was elected to the State Assembly in 2006, eventually serving as the Assembly's
Assistant Majority Leader and chairing the Select Committee on Preservation of
California's Entertainment Industry. That committee paved the way for the state's
first successful film incentive package that has saved jobs and breathed new life into
California's heritage industry.
In the Assembly, Paul led a determined effort to improve the business climate in
California, authoring legislation that revamped California's trademark law to offer more
trademark protections; legislation that expanded the scope of the anti-counterfeiting law;
and new laws that enhanced anti-piracy laws to protect copyrighted property along with
legislation that created a $3,000 tax credit for small businesses.
On the City Council, he vice-chairs the Jobs & Business Development committee, as
well as three other committees where he has continued his advocacy of small business
throughout his district.
